'The Miss America Pageant May Not Be Held on a Saturday Night'

The Miss America Pageant is coming back home to Atlantic City in 2013, but it may not be the Miss America Pageant of old. In an exclusive interview with Atlantic City Weekly, the organization's CEO Art McMaster says a date for the pageant should be set within a week or so. Are there more changes in store for this year's pageant?

McMaster was not showing all of his hand, I could tell. When reminded that at the Feb. 14 press conference it was announced that this year’s pageant would unveil some new changes to the pageant itself, McMaster smiled and said, “No, we can't talk about any of those things until we get our date set!”

The dates, said McMaster, are being determined by the MAO, ABC and the City of Atlantic City. “It's a three way arrangement,” said McMaster. “We all have to agree on the date. We are looking toward the first half of September as the date for the pageant.”

McMaster did apprise me, however, of a very interesting fact.

“I am not so sure the pageant will even be on Saturday night anymore,” he said. “ABC has Saturday Night football so it may not even be on Saturday night.”

Could it be held on Sunday evening?

“We do not know, we will see,” said McMaster. “Maybe Friday night, maybe Sunday night. In any event ABC promised us an answer by the end of February.”

It is obvious that much work must be accomplished in a relatively short time. Many dangling loose ends must be tied together to bring it all together. The positive side is that this is not the Miss America Organization’s first pageant.

Dating back to 1921, somehow the organization, no matter what form it was in, has been very good at making the pageant succeed. Art McMaster, the MAO’s Board Of Directors and all the people who provide support to Miss America are pulling out all the stops for this one.

Stay tuned, as there is much more to finalize and announce as the pageant comes back to life.

And back home.

“Please stop with the racist stuff Victoria. The fact that 8 women of color have won the pageant in I'm guessing the last 25 years shows they've moved on from that and do not discriminate based on color anymore.

Anything that will bring revenue to good old AC is fine with me.”

“Cannot believe the raciest remarks by Victoria, 8 blacks is nothing to be ashamed of. When a young lady scores well in EVERY phase of the competition, color does not matter. I do wonder though how many white, hispanics, asian,etc.... has won the title of Miss Black America?”
