Another milestone yesterday: The NJ Senate passed a bill (24–16) which would recognize same-sex marriage. It is expected to pass the assembly. New Jersey Gov. Christie has promised to veto it. The majority of the N.J. voters now favor same-sex marriage. In fact, for the first time since Gallup polls started tracking the issue nationally, 53 percent of American voters now think same-sex marriages should be allowed.
Seems to me politics are still at play as Christie courts a national Republican audience (instead of his constituency) wherein the demographics approving gay marriage are lower than among Democrats and those of us non-affiliated voters.
I’ve read arguments indicating gay marriage destroys the sanctity of marriage, which is odder still. The straight world has already done that. According to Jennifer Baker of the Forest Institute of Professional Psychology in Springfield, Miss., the divorce rate in America for first marriage, vs. second or third marriage, is as follows: 50 percent of first marriages, 67 percent of second and 74 percent of third marriages end in divorce.
Further, there are those who say same-sex love and marriage are against the laws of God.
My God holds universal love and acceptance as the law of the Universe. Love and acceptance for all is his rule, not just for some. Happy Valentine’s Day, one and all.
May all your dreams come through!!
