Once again, greetings and salutations. And here it is, May, just weeks away from Memorial Day weekend, the official kickoff for Memories in Margate. This will mark 38 years, and we'll go nonstop Friday, May 22, Saturday, May 23 -- and you can hear it live starting at 9pm on KOOL 98.3 FM. Then on Sunday night, to celebrate the new season, a live performance by Kenny Vance & the Planotones. We'll also kick off our afternoon jam sessions that Sunday at La Costa in Sea Isle City starting at 4pm. See you then. Now, time for your questions.

I'm a former member of Fleetwood Mac and have worked extensively with Bob Seger, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Roy Orbison, and many others over the past 37 years. I used to attend Chez Vous every Friday night and would have to credit you with being a huge influence on my musical palette. The reason I'm writing: Do you remember hosting an historic Little Richard show at a vacant Acme market site in Wildwood the summer of 1965 or '66? My brother and I attended this show and we have both believed for years that the guitarist in Richard's band that night was the unknown "Jimmy" Hendrix. -- Rick Vito

Sure do, Rick. And your memory is excellent. It was a record hop I held on July 3, 1965, which I remember because it was my birthday. And you're right -- at that time Jimi Hendrix was a member of Little Richard's band, as was Preston Epps ("Bongo Rock"), who was then Richard's drummer. They had come from L.A., where Richard was living at that time, and were touring with him.

Nice Bobby Womack highlight you did on WXPN. Any chance of landing him for a future Kimmel show? (Please say yes.) -- Pete Williams Jr.

Bobby still plays, mostly on the West Coast, where he lives. If he ever comes East to do shows, that's the time when I'll try to coordinate an appearance at the Kimmel. As you know, Bobby was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last month.

Did Ray Peterson appear in and do a song in one of Elvis's films? Seems like he did but I can't find it. -- Larry Nevels, Fredericksburg, Texas

You might be thinking of the story Ray told, which we told here (6/15/06), about Elvis inviting him to a movie set and asking his permission to record Ray's hit "The Wonder of You." Ray said, "Permission? You're Elvis Presley!" and Elvis replied, "Yeah, but you're Ray Peterson." They became good friends after that, but it's only Ray's songs, and not Ray himself, that have appeared in the movies, including many of Elvis'.
