IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THE ATLANTIC City Food & Wine Festival, presented by Harrah’s Entertainment, was a success and a blast last weekend. (Check out our poll on our re-launched Web site's front page.)

Speaking of food, I still can’t get over a recent sandwich I had on the edge of Atlantic City, so I have to tell you about it. (I even suggested that new restaurateur Stephen Kalt, of the Borgata’s Fornelletto, try it out. I hope he does.)

Aside from personal seasonal favorites like Smitty’s Clam Bar in Somers Point, Kessel’s Korner in Ocean City, the Atlantic City beach bars and, of course, the Custard Hut on Route 9 in Somers Point, I’ve been really digging one Atlantic City restaurant — that’s open year round — in particular this summer. This is where the sandwich in question comes from.

Mexico is an authentic Mexican restaurant (with food offered from the Oaxaca region) with a great staff (say hello to Oscar behind the bar), Tom Waitsian atmosphere and the best Mexic cuisine an torta (sandwich) I’ve ever had in my life.

Feast on their lunch or dinner items or visit the Galloway location La Hacienda. But be sure to try the “Torta Oaxaquena.”

This week, food writer Frank Gabriel, an experienced man in the kitchen himself, takes us on a tour behind the swinging doors at your average restaurant.

Also inside, Jim Waltzer takes us on a trip back 40 years to August 1969, when one of the legendary Hammond B3 jazzmen, Lonnie Smith, recorded an album at the Club Harlem. Meanwhile, Lori Hoffman interviews American Idol runner-up Danny Gokey and Mike Pritchard reviews the ongoing show at the Taj Mahal, Cirque Dreams Pandemonia.

All of what’s inside the printed issue is also on our mega-enhanced Web site acweekly.com. These are just some of the many new features you’ll find once you log onto our new site: an event calendar that’s easier to navigate, AC Weekly recommended events, a beefed-up Food & Drink guide, a Happy Hour Guide, a multimedia page with our latest videos and photo galleries, the entire print edition (including ads), and a better user experience all around, including a superior search engine.

Users are also able to upload a variety of media to the new site, which we think is really cool. Come on and join the discussions, send us your photos, video or stories. We want to make this a community Web site.

We’ve spent a lot of time making this site the best that it can be — we hope you find it user-friendly and informative. If there’s anything else you’d like to see on our new acweekly.com site, or if you just want to tell us how much you love it, send an e-mail to editor@acweekly.com.

“I like everything but the Loungs listings. Use to be able to see what was playing at each casino on one page. Now you have to open each loung individually :(”
