Do you feel as fortunate as I do that we live in — or nearby — one of the hottest entertainment spots on the East Coast? Every week, from the casino showrooms, the lounges, live jazz at local bars and restaurants to area performing arts centers, there are literally dozens of live-entertainment events in the Atlantic City region.

Take this week for example — not only will Lily Tomlin make her Atlantic City debut at the Borgata, but heavy metal band Lamb of God appears at the House of Blues, a mixed-martial arts caged-fighting event takes place at Trump Marina, revue shows continue at the Tropicana and down in Cape May, the Atlantic City Ballet’s production of Dracula will be performed all weekend. Right over in Pomona, at the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, one of the world’s greatest jazz pianists plays the Performing Arts Center there on Monday, Oct. 26.

You may not be familiar with the name Kenny Barron, but if you’re a jazz lover, you’ve likely heard him before as his gorgeous piano playing has been on hundreds of recordings since he started out in the early 1960s. This living legend was courteous enough to give us an interview and if you see the show at Stockton, you’re in for a treat as Barron is coming with a trio that he has never recorded with; it should be a night of many beautiful moments, conjuring up the images of our region’s rich jazz history.

Meanwhile, over at Resorts, for one night, you can catch some Halloween-themed magic as the magic show Haunted Illusions takes place Saturday night (See Mike Pritchard’s preview).

Over at Caesars this week, the Taste of Emeril’s cooking challenge heats up on select dates. The food competition and cooking demo started up Wednesday and runs on select dates through Nov. 12. See Frank Gabriel’s preview. The food fun continues on Nov. 7 as Borgata presents its big Savor Borgata event, which this year, will feature a top-caliber cast of chefs under the Borgata umbrella, including Wolfgang Puck, Bobby Flay, Michael Mina, Michael Schulson, Stephen Kalt and more.

Also inside this week, Ray Schweibert provides info on Friday night’s Pink Angels Night at the Ego Lounge inside the Trump Taj Mahal, David Spatz interviews comic Lily Tomlin, Carole Mattessich speaks with a 12-year-old weightlifting champ in our region and Lori Hoffman reviews a local indie film Ice Grill, USA.

Finally, a reminder about our 35th birthday party. You’re invited to the big shindig, which will take place at The Pool at Harrah’s on Nov. 11 from 6-9pm. Come out and celebrate 35 years of this publication (formerly The Whoot!) and help out the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Atlantic City. A $10 ticket includes a food tasting with light fare from the restaurants at Harrah’s, Caesars, Showboat, The Pier Shops at Caesars and Bally’s. There will also be entertainment and drink specials.
