The thump of a bass drum, the splash of a cymbal and pop of a snare drum indicate that this is the home of a musician. Dick Boccelli, then in his early 70s, is working his drum kit like an athlete utilizes a weight machine.
The Lima Bean Festival is scheduled for Oct. 12. It’s a celebration of the sometimes unheralded legume, which has helped put the Cape May borough of just over 1,000 people on the culinary map.
“It’s like the national anthem of Wildwood,” says Rydell, who will perform Friday through Sunday (Aug. 30-Sept. 1) at the Atlantic Club and Casino. “Wildwood Days,” which reached the Top 20 on Billboard’s singles charts, is a fixture in his set lists whenever he performs at the Jersey shore or the Philadelphia area, he adds.
The current Night in Venice traces its roots to 1954 when Ocean City brought back the parade as a way to celebrate Ocean City’s 75th anniversary.
