Spring is here and you can tell by the way that everyone has been in a better mood lately.
People want to shop, eat and just be chilling out in the sun. We all want to take advantage and enjoy this great weather, but business still needs to go on. And because we are in better spirits during this time of year, this is a great time to start actively networking and building your businesses.
The great thing is that because it is spring, you have the opportunity to work hard now so you can enjoy your summer months and have your business work for you.
One great opportunity coming up is an exclusive evening at Mia’s Restaurant at Caesars with Sandra Yancey, the president and founder of the e-Women Network. Not only will you get one-on-one time with her, but you will get to socialize, network and build relationships with other great people in the area. This is also one of the few e-Women events where husbands/boyfriends/significant others are welcome to come.
If you want to stay in Atlantic City after the event, Bally’s is offering a reduced room rate. This way, you can also wake up the next day and attend the more formal luncheon where Yancey will be giving a presentation.
Yancey is a networking expert who teaches others how to create relationships that harness great dividends. Starting with just 20 women in her personal database in 2000, she has grown her e-Women organization to now have 113 chapters throughout the United States and Canada and a database of over 500,000 women business owners and professionals. I was recognized last year as an emerging leader, the only one from New Jersey and one of 11 out of the United States and Canada. I have to say that this is an organization that you should take seriously. Women in business: Make every effort to attend the meetings — especially because we are lucky enough to have Marilyn Kleinberg as our local leader.
I know that getting out and networking is no easy task; it takes time, knowledge and patience. But you have to start somewhere and why not start on the night of April 8 for this event? For more information you can contact Kleinberg at marilynkleinberg@ewomennetwork.com or 601-1333.
While we are on the subject of women’s groups, there is also the New Jersey Association of Women Business Owners. The Atlantic-Cape May Chapter meets every third Tuesday at the Greate Bay Country Club in Somers Point from 5:30-8:30pm. You can get more information at atlanticcapemaynjawbo.org. I want to thank NJAWBO for recognizing me at their annual Women in Leadership Symposium event a few weeks ago at the PNC Center. There are some great women leaders and NJAWBO helped give me my start in the women-in-business networking field. Their motto is “Empower. Engage. Energize.” and that’s the feeling you’ll get when you attend their meetings.
There is another great women’s group called the South Jersey Womens Network. I love these ladies. We meet every Wednesday morning at the Shore Diner. We are only allowed to have one person from each line of work, so if you have something unique to bring to the table, feel free to check us out. The group’s motto is “For the cost of breakfast, you have hired an entire network to be your sales force.” So make sure to check out the Web site at sjwn.net.
On a side note, I’ve been meaning to tell you about the fabulous Restaurant Gala put on recently by Atlantic Cape Community College. It’s a great annual event because everyone is dressed up, music keeps the party going and, best of all, you get to enjoy as many food samplings that you want. I have to tell you that although I didn’t try everything, I did try a lot and my absolute favorite was the “Manna Dip,” which was created by Manna in Margate, and made with braised short ribs, wild mushrooms, and topped with truffle oil on a brioche roll. Manna’s tagline is “feed your body, nourish your soul.”
A good motto for this time of year!
