The first major Atlantic City beach concert has just been announced and it’s a big one. The Vans Warped Tour presented by Journeys will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a two-day concert experience, Saturday and Sunday, June 29 and 30. Unlike past years when the Warped Tour played multiple cities across the country, this year Atlantic City is one of only three stops on the mini-tour, and the only one on the East Coast.
For those unfamiliar with it, The Vans Warped Tour began in 1995, and was the first major festival-style tour to be based around punk rock and skateboard culture, though eventually it would expand to include multiple genres of music. Such major stars as blink-182 and No Doubt each were gained exposure from being on the tour prior to becoming household names. Hundreds of acts have appeared as part of the Warped Tour, including everyone from punk rock elder statesmen such as Bad Religion, Pennywise and NOFX to alt-rock heavy hitters like Beck, Deftones and Weezer and even a few major pop acts such as Katy Perry, Eminem and Black Eyed Peas. Arranged as a sort of pop-up festival, the Warped Tour was known to feature several music stages as well as half pipes for skateboarding and BMX exhibitions and a variety of booths featuring various types of vendors and organizations. For the most part the festival has stayed true to these roots over the last quarter century. The event in Atlantic City this summer will feature over 50 bands on multiple stages, alongside extreme sports such as skateboarding and motocross and a Warped Tour-themed art exhibit that has come out of the tour’s history.
“With the (Vans Warped Tour) 25th Anniversary events, we want to bring the atmosphere of a classic Warped Tour show, but on a scale that our fans simply could not get with a national tour,” explains Kevin Lyman, tour creator. “The bands, the special attractions, everything – we want to bring back elements that have made the Warped Tour, Warped Tour, over the past 25 years.”
The event will be produced by Live Nation in association with the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA) and the City of Atlantic City as part of the Atlantic City BeachFest.
“We’re thrilled to host the only East Coast celebration of Vans Warped Tour’s 25th Anniversary on the Atlantic City Beach,” said Geoff Gordon, Live Nation Philadelphia Regional President in a recent press release. “Warped Tour was meant to take place on the surf and sand, so we welcome fans from across North America to experience this unforgettable weekend with us in Atlantic City.”
Tickets will be available Friday, March 1, with a pre-sale date of Monday, Feb. 25. The official lineup of bands and special attractions will be announced on the same day. For more information, go to ACBeachConcerts.com or VansWarpedTour.com.
