The moment that arena football fans in our area have been waiting for is here.

The new Atlantic City AFL announced its new team's name in a press conference at Ocean Resort Casino on Thursday, March 7.

Now, without further ado, Atlantic City Weekly introduces you to: the Atlantic City Blackjacks.

The name Blackjacks represents the very core of Atlantic City and encapsulates the energy in the air from the Boardwalk, to the beach, to the tables.

The team name was voted on by the community on CatCountry1073.com and the Atlantic City Blackjacks name won the vote by a narrow margin, with 36 percent of the total votes. Gamblers came in as a close second, then Royals, Jackpot, and lastly High Rollers. There were over 6,500 unique votes submitted.

The contest winner, determined by being the first person to submit the Blackjacks name at AtlanticCityAFL.com, was Michael Santaniello, a student from Rider University. Santaniello won the ultimate Atlantic City Blackjacks prize pack including 2019 inaugural season tickets, an official team game helmet and personalized home game jersey.

The new Blackjacks logo presents the attitude of the team, the emotion of the fans, and the thrill of the game. The dynamic angles in the logo represent a hard-set determination and attitude meant to intimidate anyone who dares to oppose. The logo portrays the team’s identity and the embodiment of a tough city with an independent streak looking to dominate the AFL with grit and confidence.

Earlier this week, the now Blackjacks assigned the first six players to the team roster: LaRoche Jackson, defensive back; Warren Smith, quarterback; wide receivers Paul Browning, LaMark Brown and Tyron Laughinghouse; and kicker Mark Lewis.

AC AFL’s inaugural game will against three-time League champions Philadelphia Soul on Saturday, April 27, at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The first-ever home game at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall is on Saturday, May 4, against the Columbus Destroyers.

Season or individual tickets to the AC AFL can be purchased by calling 609-783-9494 or at AtlanticCityAFL.com.
