Borgata continues to bring superstars to A.C. with names like comedian Tiffany Haddish, who sold out two performances last weekend, and Britney Spears, whose three upcoming July shows are already sold out, as well. This weekend, Borgata has yet another sold-out show on the books with G-Eazy. Before he lights up the Event Center 8 p.m. Friday, March 16, here’s three things to know about the budding star.
1. He started out in a band. The 28-year old rapper began his life as Gerald Earl Gillum in Oakland, Calif. His first successes were seen in the east Bay Area in San Francisco, after working with his producer Christoph Andersson at Loyola University. During those years, he joined the hip-hop group The Bay Boyz, but really hit his stride in 2010 after opening for artists like Lil Wayne and Snoop Dogg. Since then, he’s released three major albums, “These Things Happen” in 2014, “When It’s Dark Out” in 2015, and “The Beautiful & Damned” in 2017. His hit “Me, Myself & I” featuring Bebe Rexha off of “When It’s Dark Out” even made it into the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10.
2. He has a superstar girlfriend. Much of the buzz about G-Eazy lately has been focused on his relationship with singer Halsey. She’s the artist behind popular songs like “Bad at Love” and, the hit that radio stations couldn’t get enough of in 2016, “Closer,” for which she collaborated with The Chainsmokers. More recently, however, the two worked together on a song called “Him & I” that has been dominated the airwaves since its release in December. The two performed the song on the New Year’s Rockin’ Eve broadcast, and have been making headlines with their red carpet kisses and on-stage PDA ever since.
Between the song parodies, his corny-yet-lovable sense of humor and a quasi-nerdy affection …
3. He’s ready to tour the world. G-Eazy’s Borgata show is one stop along his The Beautiful & Damned tour, which he will take to Europe in the spring and summer. The show will undoubtedly feature his biggest hits like the aforementioned “Him & I,” “Me, Myself & I” and “No Limit.” G-Eazy’s performance will be followed up by an after party at Premier Nightclub.
