Beginning Monday, Aug. 5, WBSS-AM in Atlantic City will be rebranded as “AM 1490, Sports Betting Radio.”

With a 24/7 sports talk format, the station has a market-exclusive affiliation with The BetR Network, a broadcast radio network dedicated exclusively to sports betting.

The format will be a combination of The BetR Network’s content along with local programming, and highlight the latest news, insights and analysis around the sports betting markets.

The talent line-up includes sports betting veterans Mitch Moss, Pauly Howard, Brent Musburger and others.

“With the legalization of sports betting in New Jersey, sports betting as a 24/7 format and specifically the BetR Network is a perfect choice for WBSS,” Longport Media, LLC President/General Manager Paul Kelly says.

“There’s a real appetite for sports talk that actually talks about sports (and) AM 1490, Sports Betting Radio will deliver expert analysis and information that listeners can use to make informed bets and cash winning tickets right here in Atlantic City,” he adds.

With the goal of informing, entertaining and educating listeners about sports and sports betting, AM 1490, Sports Betting Radio and The BetR Network will provide listeners with select content from the Vegas Stats & Information Network and SB Nation Radio Network.

In addition to existing shows and personalities, The BetR Network will launch “Lombardi Line,” a three-hour weekend show hosted by former NFL Executive Michael Lombardi, as well as other new programming on Aug. 5.

Ask Mr. AC Casino

Q. After quite some time, I got up from a slot machine, but stayed and watched as someone else sat down. Less than a minute later he hit a major jackpot. I was furious that I didn’t stick it out a few minutes longer. My wife said I probably wouldn’t have won anyway. What do you think?

A. Unless you hit the Play button (or pulled the handle) at the exact same time and after the same number of spins, no, you wouldn’t have won that jackpot. All slot machines have Random Number Generators which “tell” the computer inside which symbols to display and in what order. That’s what determines the win and the amount of the payoff.

July jackpots

Several casinos reported five- and six-figure slot machine jackpots in July.

Caesars Atlantic City tweeted photos showing a $72,000 winner along with another for nearly $27,000. Someone at Harrah’s Resort hit for $125,000, and Golden Nugget Atlantic City had a $13,033 winner.
