EAST RUTHERFORD — The Breeders Crown, harness racing’s $5 million season-ending championship, will return to the Meadowlands Racetrack in 2014.
Meadowlands chairman Jeff Gural announced the selection Thursday. The 30th Breeders Crown will cap the first full season at the new Meadowlands grandstand that opens Nov. 23.
The 12 races will be contested in November 2014, on a date to be determined. The Meadowlands last hosted the Breeders Crown in 2009.
“We would like to thank the horsemen of New Jersey, who have shown unwavering support for our racetrack, for making this commitment to showcase the best standardbreds in the world,” Gural said.
The Breeders Crowns have been instrumental in determining divisional champions since 1984.
This year’s event takes place Saturday in Wilkes Barre, Pa.
