One of South Jersey’s most anticipated annual culinary events is finally here. Chefs at the Shore returns to Atlantic City for its 16th year with another gathering of some of the best chefs in the area. Run by the American Culinary Federation Professional Chefs Association of South Jersey, Chefs at the Shore started as a small event with only 10 chefs involved. This year the event will have more than 30 participating from various local restaurants. Each chef will prepare several of their signature dishes, all with the goal of raising money for culinary scholarships and educational programs.

The event is open to the public and, as always, there will be live music, a cash bar and a lineup of incredible culinary treats as far as the eye can see. But one thing will not be the same. For the first time since its inception, Chefs at the Shore will not be held at the Atlantic City Aquarium. This year, the event takes place at 5 p.m. Thursday, June 13, at the Marina at Golden Nugget Atlantic City.

“The Aquariam had changes happening this year, therefore we needed a different venue, but the ACF Professional Chefs Association of South Jersey wanted to continue with this long-standing event,” says Kenneth Trout, president of the American Culinary Federation Professional Chef’s Association of South Jersey. “Golden Nugget stepped up and offered to be this year’s venue and they have been fantastic in helping to plan for this year’s event.”

The Marina at Golden Nugget will of course provide a beautiful visual backdrop for the event with its picture perfect marina and million-dollar views.

“Golden Nugget is excited to host Chefs at the Shore this year for the first time. We feel that relocating it to a new area overlooking the marina and A.C. skyline will definitely add to the whole event,” says Bobby Hettmannsperger, director of culinary operations for Golden Nugget.

Though most of these chefs are happy to devote some time to any good cause, Hettmannsperger notes that there is also a social reason for them to be involved in an event like this.

“Myself and other chefs love to do Chefs at the Shore,” he says. “It’s not just a great event for the guests but also for the chefs. We all know each other in this town and it gives us a chance to catch up with old friends from the city and surrounding areas.”

Though your sense of taste will see the most action at this event, there will be some live music to enjoy as well. Back to rock the house for another year is Gas Pedal Steel, who brings their mix of country, rockabilly and rock ’n’ roll to Chefs at the Shore. Behind the drum kit will be George Fischer, executive chef at The Atlantic City Convention Center and Boardwalk Hall, who can rock almost as well as he can cook.

In addition to the band, Press of Atlantic City Director of Entertainment Publications Scott Cronick will broadcast his radio show “Off The Press with Scott Cronick” live from the event on 1400 AM WOND.

Though the location may have changed, the spirit has remained the same.

“We are setting a new standard for this event and hope we can keep the tradition going forward,” Hettmannsperger says.
