Ocean City offers to take out the trash at ‘Dog Beach’

Three dogs play on the beach at Malibu Beach, a state park at the foot of the Ocean City-Longport bridge in Egg Harbor Township.

Here are some great spots to bring your pup during the, er, dogs days of summer.

Dog Beach: Often called Longport Dog Beach or Somers Point Dog Beach — or simply Dog Beach — is where dogs can frolic off-leash in the sand and water. This tiny beach is just at the base of the Ocean Drive Bridge across from the fishing pier (Longport side). Owners, be warned though. There are no trash bins so you dispose of any trash off-site. Ocean City Dog Park: Pups are not permitted on the beach in Ocean City during peak season. But they are always welcome at Ocean City Dog Park, a fenced-in recreation area for dogs and “well-behaved canine companions.” It’s a 42,000-square-foot park with three sandy areas for dogs to play in, while owners can chill out at a picnic table or bench. Open 8 a.m. to dusk daily year-round. 45th Street and Haven Avenue, Ocean City; OceanCityDogPark.org.
