1. The vibe. Firewaters in Tropicana recently underwent a major change in aesthetic. The bar now drives home a truly retro, Western vibe, with a wall decorated with bullhorns, Spaghetti Western posters and bar stools that look like the backside of a horse — and that’s not a euphemism. So, if you’ve been there before, it’s worth a revisit since it was revamped in January.

2. The beers. One of the main draws of Firewaters Saloon is the extensive beer list. It features over 70 different brews from local to international brands, like Guinness, Harpoon Brewery in Massachusetts, Anchor Steam in California and New Jersey companies like Cape May Brewery, Flying Fish and Glasstown Brewery.

3. The happy hour. The best time to hit Firewaters, of course, is during its happy hour, Mondays to Fridays from 4 to 7 p.m. Happy hour deals include $2 select 16-ounce drafts and $8 beer samplers that include three 6-ounce samples, plus $5 Long Island iced teas. Any time of day, however, you can enjoy specialty drinks like a Jeremiah Weed Sweet Tea Vodka ($5), mixed with lemonade.

4. The grub. Firewaters is right next to A Dam Good Deli, which is where it gets all of its meats, cheeses and breads. Bar favorites like Nachos Grande ($10), a foot long Dietz & Watson hot dog ($5), slider burgers ($5) and something called The Big Fatty ($10), with Dietz & Watson hot pastrami and corned beef with your choice of two cheeses on a sub roll, are available to soak up all that beer.

5. The entertainment. Keeping in line with its theme, Firewaters Saloon mainly features country music. However, occasionally a bit of classic rock and disco creep in there, as well. What really sets it apart, though, is its call for singers. Currently on its website, a “Wanted” poster is hung inviting performers to reach out. Open auditions are held every Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m., and interested singers can send Firewaters a message on Facebook to schedule an audition.
